"This solution enabled the College to improve core infrastructure stability and increase productivity."Eric Dunbar, IT Manager at Dumfries and Galloway College
The BackgroundLocated in southern Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway College is a further and higher education facility with its main campus at Dumfries and a second located 75 miles west in Stranraer.
The ChallengeExisting IT infrastructure was struggling to cope with demand; moving the Dumfries campus to a purpose-built facility was the catalyst to create a new data centre and infrastructure to support staff and students.
The SolutionA virtualised server estate using HP, Microsoft and VMware technologies, with a design better able to support the College’s Shared Learning Environment.
The ResultConsiderable cost savings and efficiency gains plus more flexible working. A Shared Learning Environment means students from neighbouring establishments can access data from the network; the College could provide improved services to users, including moving from a fixed teaching environment to a flexible learning environment.
